HOW IT WORKS

A safety net for gap year travellers

TravelAid has a team of travel safety and security experts available on call 24/7 who will answer your emergency calls. These incident managers will be able to provide advice and support to help ensure your personal safety.

 

Once the incident managers have provided initial advice to help you deal with whatever situation you are in, they will talk you through your next steps, and depending on your subscription level, they can complete some of these tasks on your behalf.

 

If you need to call, our incident managers will calmly talk gap year travellers through the immediate safety or security priorities, answering questions and explaining how to act. Our incident manager will then carry out any supporting actions such telling you where the nearest hospital or police station is, alerting consular support from the embassy, informing your parents (if you want us to) and opening a case with your travel insurance. We can provide you with telephone based access to an interpreter and even making emergency payments for a hotel, taxi or coach, helping get you to a safe place after an emergency.

STEP ONE

You find yourself in a situation where you’d benefit from non-judgemental, experienced advice and support about anything that has already or might soon affect your personal safety.

 

In many situations when in difficulty, travellers would rather not call their parents either because they won’t know how to help, they don’t want to cause worry or they are just too embarrassed to explain what has happened.

STEP TWO

Simply call our UK-based incident managers via your emergency number (provided on subscription) from any phone (landline or data call).

 

TravelAid’s experienced incident managers will calmly talk gap year travellers through their situation, suggest immediate safety or security priorities, answer questions and explain what to do next to reduce risk to personal safety.

STEP THREE

Incident managers will explain the next steps to reduce risk and get help, remaining just a call away until the situation is resolved.

 

Depending on your subscription level, they can complete tasks on your behalf, such as opening insurance cases, liaising with your insurer to arrange emergency medical care or evacuation, Consular support, notifying and liaison with family members and even arranging advance fund transfers in emergency situations.

The TravelAid team are used to hearing everyone’s worst nightmares so you won’t shock us, we are well placed to provide practical advice and we will always be there to answer the phone. Quite often we get calls from travellers about suspected STDs and highly sensitive topics such as challenges with mental health. Whatever is going on, we’ll be there to help you in confidence.

This advance payment is made in good faith that once a case is opened with the travellers’ travel insurance, Pharos Response will be refunded for the costs incurred.
